Great Yorkshire Show Gold Medal 2015

Well done to Fred and Jenny for a wonderful stand and a well deserved Gold medal!

4 Star Award for DS Stand at Chelsea 2015

Chelsea 2015 was a successful one for the Society.  The stand turned out very well - in spite of a challenging spring delaying the plants flowering.  However the buds looked very good and attracted a lot of favourable comments.  The show goers seemed to appreciate seeing delphiniums in a 'garden' setting - and one lady even asked to buy the whole thing lock, stock and barrel, I think she was serious too!

Building a Chelsea stand of any sort takes a lot of effort; our 4 Star achievement this year - would not be possible without the support from several people. So, special thanks to Joan Taylor for growing most of the supporting plants (they were great) and the final build of the stand.  To Jackie Jack for helping build the stand.  Also to my wife, Anne, for too much to list - without her, there would be no stand!

Thanks to all of those members who worked on the stand during the week. Terry and Jean Woolley for putting together and delivering membership packs and related information. Also to Radio London star Rita Dyton, who was interviewed - live on radio!

During the week we sold a lot of our seeds - commercially the best Chelsea since 2011. Many thanks to David and Shirley Bassett for packing up 1,500 packets of seed, hopefully, there will be a lot more quality delphiniums growing in the years to come.

AGM at RHS Garden Wisley - November 2014

It was an enjoyable trip to Wisley for the AGM on the 15th November, if you haven't attended yet it is worth the effort to meet up with like minded people and find out more about the society. First we had the society business in the morning AGM with the presentation of the show trophies by Keith and then, after a delicious lunch, we had the talks. First a report from Kate West from the Yorkshire & Lincolnshire group and then a powerpoint talk from Howard Norton Chairman of the Eastern Group about attracting new members and the work they are doing. Later there were 2 talks from Clive about the new delphinium trial plans and the wide range of tender plants he manages to grow in his East Suffolk garden.
There was also the added bonus of seeing Wisley Garden in all it's Autumn glory.

Here are a few of the group after a good day out!
